The big one. The grand finale. The title bout. Whatever you want to call it, this is where it all ended when the LA Galaxy hosted the New England Revolution with the league championship on the line.
The Shortest Day of the Year Ride in Newport has been rescheduled to Sunday, December 7th at 5PM. It’s a spin off of the very popular Longest Day of the Year Ride in June. It’s not on the Winter Solstace Date but it’s close enough.

This Weekend has four choices for bike rides. The Narragansett Bay Wheelmen have their usual Saturday Cafe Tour on the East Bay Bike Path, and the usual Sunday morning rides.
The Appalachian Mountain Club is putting on an easy 23 mile spin through Fairhaven, while Ten Speed Spokes in Newport is doing their annual Shortest Day of the Year Ride.
Hi fellow bike riders, Anyone feel like riding Saturday? Weather should be ok. I think the forecast said 50 degrees. The ride will start from Kmart in Fairhaven at 9:30. Address is 9 Plaza Way. This is a nice, easy flat ride (no hills) of about 23 miles. We’ll ride the Phoenix/Mattapoisett Rail Trail , then head to Fort Phoenix and the hurricane dike overlooking beautiful New Bedford Harbor. We’ll finish with a spin around Fairhaven Ctr. with it’s impressive architecture. A mile before the end of the ride we can stop for lunch (optional) at our usual place, Simmy’s Restaurant . Bring a helmet, water, snacks and a bike lock and dress warm. If you need directions to the start, let me know and also let me know if you plan on coming. Contact me, Jack Jacobsen, at cyclejac51@yahoo.com or my cell phone at
508-353-3708. Hope to see you Saturday. Jack
It’s not exactly the shortest day but on Dec 6th 2014 we’ll be featuring a new ride as a counterpart to our Longest Day of the Year Ride. You’ll need lights for your bike and possibly warm clothes, depending on what the unpredictable early December weather brings. We’ll have coffee from Empire Tea and Coffee and hot chocolate to help keep you warm.
Since the ride will be taking place after dark, please bring lights appropriate for riding at night. In other words a light “to see”, not just to “be seen”. More then just a 1 LED blinky. For those who don’t have headlights, Light and Motion will be on site to provide lights for those who need them.
\We’ll roll out at 5pm. Plan on 15 and 25 mile loops.
After lighting up Ocean Drive, plan to stick around for an open house at the shop.
As is the case with our summer ride, registration is free and cyclists of all abilities are invited to join in.
