Hi folks,
After watching the forecasts closely
it looks like the weather will be cooperating on Friday so…
There will be a Sunset/Moonlight ride on the East Bay Bike Path on Friday 7/15/22. Moonrise is at 10:46PM so we will probably not see the moon during the entire ride.
The Details:
Date: Friday 7/15/22.
Location: EBBP off Rt 103 near Del’s Lemonade.
Set you GPS to 65 Child St. Warren R.I.
Time:
Arrive: 7:30PM
Departure: 7:45PM promptly
Sunset: 8:26PM
Moonrise: 10:46PM
Name: Wednesday’s moon was the
Full Buck Super Moon.
Male deer, which shed their antlers every year, begin to regrow them in July, hence the Native American name for July’s full moon. Some refer to this moon as the thunder moon, due to the summer storms in this month. Other names include the hay moon, after the July hay harvest.
Distance is flexible.
Rain or high winds cancels the ride.
We will ride to Bristol to enjoy the sunset at Colt’s State Park. We will then return to the parking lot. That’s around 10 miles. Those who wish to will continue toward Providence till we decide to turn around.
Turn around point could be as far as India Point Park unless we decide to turn around sooner (or later).
That’s around 30 or 32 miles round trip.
Other routes are also possible.
Bikes should have adequate lighting.
If you have a second headlight as a backup it might come in handy if the first one goes out.
Bring water, snacks, cameras and anything else you might want or need.
Take note that it’s still cooler after sunset. Dress accordingly.
Newly formed Bike New Bedford had their inaugural first Friday bike ride. Three ice cream shops were the highlights on this ride through the city and around the peninsula of Clarks Cove and Buzzards Bay. A stiff southerly wind provided a bit of a challenge as we began the loop “around the fort”. Fort Rodman/Fort Taber sit at the southern end of the peninsula with nothing to intercept the winds blowing off the Atlantic. The silver lining for the three of us riding our e-bikes, was none of us noticed any wind, or hills, for that matter.

A Day biking in New England
For a few years, I used Vimeo as my video sharing. The price became to steep for this amateur video guy. Consequently, I merged to YouTube. When my Vimeo subscription expired, my videos were blocked. I’m in the process of moving them. I just finished my 2019 Erie Canal bike tour with #3 son Brandon.

The crazyguyonabike web site has been a wonderful resource for touring bicyclists. It has lots of pretty dated but still cool things on it’s site. The link below will take anyone interested to my crazyguy pages for the Erie Canal 2019 tour. Enjoy.
Terry the biker and I met at the designated meeting spot of the group ride. A 3:30 meet for a 4 PM start. Approaching the start, a rider crossed the road in front of me and I was tempted to ask if he was here for the event. The organizer made it clear that helmets were mandatory to ride with his group. This guy was helmet-less so I passed on querying him.
It was approaching the start time and still no one around. Terry called the organizer and he assured us that we were at the correct place, Buttonwood Park warming house. We both left at 4:30 figuring we got something wrong. Terry rode north, I rode east.
My route took me to the end location of the ride where I met a fellow Starchaser who said the ride was in progress. He also said that Terry and I were close, but at the wrong start location. It was at the park, but at the zoo entrance and not the warming house, a mere 500 feet away.
I did get some video of geese and a turtle as a consolation.
