There are two fundraising and three group rides I’ll be working in the next few weeks.

September 2. The monthly Bike New Bedford night ride. It’s the first Friday of every month, from Common Park in New Bedford. This is a casual ride around the city led by Starchaser Commander Civitron

On Sunday, September 11, 2022 the South Coast Bikeway Alliance will hold its 5th Annual Pedal for the Path ride. This signature fundraising event is a cycling tour of the South Coast with beautiful views, quiet roads, ice cream and lots of fun. Starting and finishing at Cisco Brewers it will be a perfect way to celebrate the South Coast Bikeway. More details and registration info at http://www.bikereg.com/pedal-for-the-path.

September 19. 10 AM start. Save the Bay training ride. A 22 casual paced (12-14 MPH ave.) road ride to Great Hill Blue Cheese Company in Marion, MA. Ride will originate at Plumbs Corner in Rochester, MA.

September 23. Providence Bike Jam On the third Friday of every month, PBJ host a night themed ride through the streets of Providence, RI. Typically, more than 200 cyclists, from teens to seniors show for a party ride. Two stops at city parks for a dance party culminating at a downtown brewery of the organizers choice.

After watching the forecasts closely

it looks like the weather will be cooperating on Friday so…

There will be a Sunset/Moonlight ride on the East Bay Bike Path on Friday 8/12/22.   

The full moon is on Thursday the day before.  Moonrise is at 8:44PM so we’ll probably get to see the moon.   

The Details:

Date: Friday 8/12/22. 

Location:  EBBP off Rt 103 near Del’s Lemonade. 

Set your GPS to 65 Child St. Warren R.I.

Time: 

Arrive: 6:45PM 

Departure: 7:00PM promptly 

Sunset: 7:49PM

Moonrise:  8:44PM

Name:  Thursday’s moon is the Full Sturgeon Moon. 

North American fishing tribes called August’s full moon the sturgeon moon since the species appeared in number during this month. It’s also been called the green corn moon, the grain moon, and the red moon for the reddish hue it often takes on in the summer haze.

Distance is flexible. 

Rain or high winds cancels the ride. 

We will ride to Bristol to enjoy the sunset at Colt’s State Park.  We will then return to the parking lot. 

That’s around 10 miles.  Those who wish to, will continue toward Providence till we decide to turn around. 

Turn around point could be as far as India Point Park unless we decide to turn around sooner (or later). 

That’s around 30 or 32 miles round trip.

Other routes are also possible. 

Bikes should have adequate lighting. 

If you have a second headlight as a backup it might come in handy if the first one goes out. 

Bring water, snacks, cameras and anything else you might want or need. 

Take note that it’s still cooler after sunset.  Dress accordingly.

#1 son and his son, flew in from Colorado to spend some time with college friends in Maine and also quality time with Ma and Pa. I have season tickets to the New England Revolution and attended the Saturday night game.

Sunday we drove to Braintree Logan Express, and were picked up by Sue’s Brother who drove us to Boston. We had two nights in the Sheraton at the Hynes Center, and Jeff was only there for the Sox game. More about the parking at the end of this monologue.

We met Keith and Koa at the Sox game because our hotel check in was later in the afternoon, leaving our things in the car. We left the game with the Sox up, 7-2 late in the match. Right after singing Sweet Caroline with the rest of the spectators. Later we met our nephew Tyler and his wife Susan, for dinner at the Oyster House. Dinner for 5 was a mere $380. We’ll leave it at that.

Monday morning was a trip the the New England Aquarium. It was very interesting, especially the Theater. “Birds Over Water” was playing in the very expansive seating area that had no problem accommodating the seven people who paid to watch the show. Later in the day, we walked the few blocks to board our WWII landing craft for our surf and turf Duck Tour.

For dinner we traveled to Commonwealth Ave to dine again with Tyler and Susan. Susan is from Shanghai and we met at Victoria’s Secret Cantonese restaurant and let Susan order traditional Chinese cuisine. Some of which was very interesting. The food was served on a glass (similar to the one in a microwave). To get at something you wanted, simply swivel the glass in the middle of the table till your choice came to you. It was a very large serving area that never ran low on food. It just kept coming and coming. Lobster, shrimp, scallops, green beans, ribs, and the biggest eel I have ever seen. Before being chopped into very large pieces, it was the size of my arm from shoulder to wrist. An just as round. And alive.

We visited the Boston Common and the family did the Swan Boat Ride. We parted ways with the kids late morning and Sue and I got on the Green Line, transferred to the Blue Line which got us to Logan Airport. The free airport shuttle got us to terminal A where, after a 20 minute wait, we boarded the Braintree Logan Express back to our car. $21 parking $22 bus fare and $8 MBTA fare for a total of $41 for a weekend of parking. We also had the option of Parking at the Sheraton Hotel for $65/night. We chose the former.

Meet at Ft. Phoenix pickleball courts for a casual paced 10-13 mile ride.

Ride the Phoenix Bike Trail and Mattapoisett Rail Trail including the spectacular extension.

            Full Buck Super Moon. 

Male deer, which shed their antlers every year, begin to regrow them in July, hence the Native American name for July’s full moon. Some refer to this moon as the thunder moon, due to the summer storms in this month. Other names include the hay moon, after the July hay harvest.
