Full Flower Moon, Ride Tonight

full flower moon

It’s short notice, but it looks like good weather for tonight’s full moon.  So short of RAIN, snow, hurricane or gale force winds it should be a go.
Full Flower Moon,
Full Corn Planting Moon,
Full Milk Moon,
Hare Moon.

There will be a Sunset/Moonlight ride on the East Bay Bike Path on Saturday 5/18/20

Date: Saturday 5/18/19.

Location:  EBBP off Rt 103 near Del’s Lemonade.
Time:
Arrive: 6:45PM
Departure: 7:00PM promptly
Sunset: 8:00PM
Distance is flexible.

Rain cancels the ride.

We will ride toward Providence till we decide to turn around.

That’s around 22 or 23 miles round trip.

Bikes should have adequate lighting.

If you have a second headlight as a backup that might come in handy if the first one goes out.
Bring water, snacks, cameras and anything else you might want or need.

All bike path. Helmets optional.

Take note that it is cooler after sunset and dress accordingly.

Washington Secondary Bikeway. May 2019

DSCN9149
Someone important came up with the idea of planting bushes in front of an information sign.

We met in Cranston R.I. for an early 8:30 AM start for our 40 mile bike on the Washington Secondary Bikeway.  The Washington Secondary Bike Path is the state’s longest bike path at 19 miles from Cranston Street in Cranston to Log Bridge Road, just past Route 102, in western Coventry. It is named for the abandoned rail corridor once served by the Providence, Hartford, & Fishkill Railroad.

It was a day of flat tires.  The first was within 10 minutes of beginning the ride. The second and third were on the return 20 mile leg.  There was and ample supply  of amateur wrenches to quickly get things back to normal.  Not much unlike working with the Keystone Cops.

The were lots of wonderful sights to see along the Pawtuxet Corridor of the railway.  We rode past some of the textile mills that got their power from the fast moving Pawtuxet River.

South Coast Bikeway Group Ride

In keeping with national bike month, the South Coast Bikeway group organized a ride with various distance options.  The most popular was the Fort to Fort ride along the SouthCoast of Massachusetts.

This took us from Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven, into New Bedford and continuing around the peninsula to Fort Rodman and Fort Taber.  The wind, as usual, set up some resistance, but it was futile. Everyone was enjoying the ride and ignoring the wind.

The Wind On The Atlantic

Rain was forecast as well as wind.  Both were due hours after our ride.  The rain did as promised, but the wind?  It was in our face when we rode south.  It was in our face when we rode west, again riding north.  As a finale,  gusty wind greeted us for the last leg southbound.   It’s the cost of riding bikes along the Atlantic.

Saturday Morning Challenge Ride

IMG_0598

Our group, Bike Fall River, is competing in the National Bike Challenge, and as of this morning, we are in first place in our division. I have no idea what “our division”, means. I’m just passing along what I was told by our leader Brian.

The early morning rains kept most of our regulars away.  It seems they look out the window, see what’s happening, and make their decision.  Others,  have the radar and forecast influence our decisions.  The five of us had a good ride that added about 150 miles to our group total for the month.  Nationally we have little chance of winning this thing, but regionally, we are a lock.  All 10 of our riders use our bike not only for club rides, but utility and lots of solo rides to boot.

On the return leg, a couple of kids riding out of the woods got my attention.  When I looked were they were coming from I was hit by a blast of color.. I can’t even fathom how many time I have biked this stretch over the years and never noticed these colorful and unique buildings.

Here is more evidence of today’s ride.
