Midnight Marathon Bike Ride

Boston Midnight Marathon

It’s time to get your tickets to have your bike shipped to the starting line in Hopkinton.  It’s thirty bucks plus another six for the commuter rail.  It’s very much worth the money.  The trucks fill up quickly so time is of the essence.

CLICK HERE to get your ticket.  Stop thinking about it. Just do it fercryinoutloud.  It’s going to be one of the best rides you have ever done.

30 Days of Biking, Day 5

The weather has made the 30 days of biking challenge….well….a challenge. Three of the 5 days have been torrential rains. The good news is that all three have had evening windows allowing rides, albeit, short ones.
I did manage a dry, yet chilly ride to the gym this morning. Greg Loper mentioned the irony of a gym without a bike rack on 30 Days of Biking this morning. In Fairhaven, MA. the irony continues.
I am 5 for 5 so far and tomorrow’s forecast of heavy rains holding off till the afternoon is a good indication that the streak will continue.
It’s getting to be that time of year to begin doing some long rides.  That may begin the weekend with one or two 30 milers.   We’ll see.

30 Days of Biking. Day 1

It almost didn’t happen.  Last year on this date we got a snow storm.  This year,  a wicked pissah Nor’easter with heavy rain and snow mix throughout the day put the ride in jeopardy.   Around 8 PM the storm had abated but the night was sultry.  I got the Scott SUB 40, (speedy urban bike, 40) lit up for a night ride and headed to the town center.

The bike path was dark and deserted.  A rabbit scooted across  defying the odds of the two of us, the only two souls out, crossing paths.  A mile out, and a mile back was the extent of the ride.  Being out alone at night. witnessing the tail end of a storm heading out to sea, was priceless.   I will tell people how nice, in spite of the stormy weather, the ride felt.  Most, even many who ride bikes, will not understand.  But there are those who will know this feeling.

2017 30 days of biking, day 1.  Night ride.  Down low glow light under the water bottle, Blinkey on the seat stem.  Monkeylectric light on the front wheel.  Head light on the front fork.   All pimped out and no one saw me.
