Full Buck Moon Bike Ride

Seven of our group showed up in Warren RI.  Three of us rode the 10 miles from East Providence, RI. The other four drove to the path in Warren. While talking about our full moon ride, three people we have seen on the East Bay Bike Path struck up a conversation that led to them doing the ride with us.

We stopped in Colt State Park in Bristol, RI to view the sunset. The clouds rolled in just in time to block the view.  We rode to the east side of the peninsula to see the moon rise.  No luck on that either.  The clouds cleared about an hour after the viewings had past.  But we were riding. Night riding. On a warm summer night, instinctively practicing my favorite yoga practice of lifting the corners of our mouths.  (smiling)

Two left the ride as we biked past the parking lot in Warren. The rest of us continued ten miles to Providence. We took a break on the India Point Park bridge for some photos, videos and a couple broke out their “nutrition” bars.

It was warm, muggy and dark for the return ride.  My group of three only had a little over a mile to East Providence.  The others had a ten mile ride back to Warren.  At  10:30 no less.  P.M.

Full Buck Moon.
There will be a Sunset/Moonlight ride on the East Bay Bike Path on Friday 7/27/18.
Date: Friday 7/27/18.
Location:  EBBP off Rt 103 near Del’s Lemonade.  65 Child St, Warren, RI
Arrive: 7:15PM
Departure: 7:30PM promptly
Sunset: 8:08PM
Moon rise:  8:10PM
Distance is flexible.
As the moon rise is immediately after sunset it should be a perfect night for moonlight riding.
Rain cancels the ride.
We will ride to Bristol to enjoy the sunset in Colt’s State Park.  We will then return to the parking lot.  That’s around 8-10 miles.  Those who wish to will continue toward Providence till we decide to turn around.
Turn around point will probably be India Point Park unless we decide to turn around sooner (or later).
That’s around 30 or 32 miles round trip.
Other routes are also possible.
Bikes should have adequate lighting.
If you have a second headlight as a backup that might come in handy if the first one goes out.
Bring water, snacks, cameras and anything else you might want or need.
Helmets are highly recommended.
Take note that it is cooler after sunset and dress accordingly.

Saturday Morning Group Ride

Today’s route took us from Fairhaven to Marion MA.  Just over 30 miles of flat, bike friendly back roads.

Marion is a wonderful alternative to living on Cape Cod.  You can see the Cape from most homes, and that’s more than good enough for the locals.

Our ride took us past Tabor Academy , the Converse estate. (yes that Converse), through the beautiful center of town with it’s old New England charm as well as the beaches and the harbor of town.  It is well worth the 13 mile ride on the back roads of Mattapoisett and Rochester.

East Bay, Rhode Island with Bike Fall River

A bunch of us rode the East Bay through the towns of Warren, Barrington, Bristol and Riverside R.I. on Saturday.

The ride is set up to accommodate both the novice and the not novice bikers. We start in Warren and do a meandering ride to Bristol along the East Bay. It’s a 10 mile round trip done at an easy pace. Back in Warren, the novice, or those short of time, pack up and the rest of head to Riverside at a decent speed.

One of our riders suggested we ride to a railroad station that has been converted into a cafe. He had a doughnut in mind. A home made cake doughnut, slathered in maple and topped with bacon.

On the return ride, he had to stop and rest because the sugar and empty calories kicked in really hard. I had learned a long time ago not to eat like that if there were miles to go. In this case, around eight. It’s all in the video.

At the beginning of the video, everyone froze like I was taking a still. I reminded them that this was a video and to do something. They did nothing so I said, “just go blah blah blaa or something”.
